That gadget has been around for a few years now. I always said I'd have to get one of those if I ever built myself a wood shop capable of having a real table saw in... IMO, they should get a Nobel prize for that thing!

^^ I agree. I had never seen this before. After looking at it it seems that it has been around since 03 and no manufacturer has adapted it to their equipment so this guy is producing his own saw.. I think they are down to approx 600 now... they probably will be even more reasonable as the production numbers go up. If you had a production shop this would be awesome!

The only problem with that is you will get lazy or care less if you know your fingers will survive. And how close to the blade do you really want to get?

If they still had wood shop in schools this would be a great thing, just dont let the students know its there.....

It also looks like the piece is destroyed with every use, is the piece replacable?

From what I remember from a story I'd saw on this gadget, not only the piece itself is destroyed, but potentially (pieces of) the saw, too. That's a lot of rotation to stop in an instant...

I think the repair cost might help encourage folks to not become complacent.

I would hope you are correct, but its human nature to push the envelope and if there is nothing to lose safety will be set aside.

I am sure the blade is about toast by the time it stops like that, or at least missing parts of the carbite.

I think I saw the same show Chrisco mentioned...but if I recall, the blade stays "intact" but is useless (i.e., needs replaced)...and the aluminum brake is replaceable.

Yeah, what he said The blade does, indeed, stay intact, and attached to the arbor...but it seems like the show I'd seen showed that something else broke on the saw. I very well may be mistaking the breaking with the broken pieces of the SawStop.

I saw this about 6 years agoe!!! I've been hoping to see it on the market. At the time though, the inventor had yet to find a way to stop the blade that fast. I think it had three teeth rotations back then, but this looks like, maybe one.

    Nice find!!!

Oh, $60 for the accident according to the video. Looks like the brake and a blade.
