I've got a 4-block subpanel out in my shop. I'd like to expand this, as they're all taken at the moment, and I'd like to add an additional 220v plug, and/or hard-wire my new compressor (whenever I get it) on a new breaker.

Anyone ever replaced a subpanel before? Any tips?

Also, how are subpanels normally tapped into the house line (or are they)? While snooping around in the subpanel, I noticed that they ran a 4-strand cable from the house to the shop, yet they only wired the 220v as a 3-wire setup. I'd like to check the house end, to see if the capped green wire is connected to anything, and (if it is) convert the existing 3-wire setup in the shop to 4 wire (which the welder uses).
nevermind on Q #2. I figured it out all on my own like :D
